INCENTIVES FOR ARTISTS

Affordable Housing

The City of Toledo has an abundance of affordable housing that can be adapted to the needs of artists for live/work/sell activity.  As much of the available housing stock is in need of rehabilitation, we are exploring opportunities for property improvement tax credits to encourage homeowners to invest in their places of residence.

Home Buyer Incentives

The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo is working with area banks and lenders to create a package of opportunities to encourage artists to locate their homes and businesses in designated neighborhoods. These packages may include low interest loans, purchase of vacant lots held by the City at a low cost, upon presentation of satisfactory finance and building plans, and rebates on sales tax on materials bought to renovate properties.  Acceptance of low interest loans and rehabilitation grants will require a minimum five-year residency.

Rent/Lease

The City ofToledo is exploring potential spaces for low/no cost utilization of vacant or underutilized buildings in the Downtown area.  As spaces are deemed appropriate will be added to the ArtistSpace Locator on this website.

Relocation Allowances: The City of Toledo and ACGT expect to provide relocation allowances for artists who meet eligibility requirements.

The Arts Commission and the City of Toledo, together with area CDC's, expect to designate appropriate neighborhoods as priority commitment areas for Live Work Create Toledo.  Community meetings will  be scheduled in January 2007 to discuss the impact on potential communities and to gather feedback from community members on how to maximize the benefits of the program.
